How We Work
Our Home Addition Process
01
Consultation & Scope
We visit your home in Brampton, Mississauga, or elsewhere in the GTA, review how you use the space, and define whether a rear addition, side extension, or second-storey build best solves the problem.
02
Design & Structurals
We develop a layout that fits your lot and lifestyle, then bring in engineering for foundations, beams, and load paths so the addition ties cleanly into the existing house.
03
Permits & Approvals
We prepare building permit drawings, coordinate zoning requirements with your municipality, and manage comments from plan examiners through approval.
04
Foundation & Framing
Site protection, excavation or footing work as required, foundation, framing, roofing, windows, and the building envelope. Weather-tight first, then interiors.
05
Mechanical & Finishes
Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC extended into the new space. Insulation, drywall, flooring, trim, paint, and any kitchen or bathroom fit-out included in the scope.
06
Inspections & Handover
Municipal inspections at required stages, punch-list closeout, and a finished addition that matches your home and passes code in your city.
FAQ
Common Questions
What kinds of home additions do you build?
We build rear additions, side extensions, kitchen bump-outs, second-storey additions, and larger multi-room expansions. Scope can include matching exterior finishes, structural openings into the existing home, and full interior fit-out.
Do I need a permit for a home addition in Brampton or Mississauga?
Yes. Almost every addition that expands floor area or changes structure requires a building permit under the Ontario Building Code. Zoning setbacks, lot coverage, and height limits also apply. We handle permit drawings and municipal submissions for projects in Brampton, Mississauga, Etobicoke, Oakville, Vaughan, Burlington, and surrounding GTA cities.
How long does a home addition take?
Design and permit review often take longer than the build itself. A modest rear addition may move through construction in a few months once permitted. Second-storey work or full-width additions take longer. We provide a schedule after design so you know when drawings, permit review, and site work begin.
Can you match the exterior of my existing house?
Yes. We plan cladding, brick, siding, roofing, and window styles to blend with the existing home whenever materials are available. Where exact matches are discontinued, we propose the closest durable option and show samples before ordering.
Will we need to move out during construction?
It depends on the scope. Small rear additions often leave most of the house livable with temporary separations. Second-storey additions and projects that open large sections of the existing roof or main floor can make living on site impractical for part of the schedule. We discuss this honestly at the estimate stage.
How is a home addition different from a garden suite?
A home addition expands your existing house. A garden suite is a separate building on the same lot. If you need more connected living space for your family, an addition is usually the right path. If you want a detached unit for rental or privacy, a garden suite may fit better. We can advise which option works for your lot in Brampton, Mississauga, or nearby cities.
